Annual Flower Shows

As a major outreach activity, the University gardens hosts Annual flower show during February-March. The colorful flowers have been presenting a visual treat for the connoisseurs since the past 59 years. Seasonal and exotic flowers, Bon-sai trees,  foliage plants, cacti, succulents, and ferns are all a part of the two-day festival.

The Flower Show features competitive entries in multiple categories and sub-categories of plants. In addition, special stalls on educational outreach in nature conservation, unique flora and environmental restoration efforts ongoing at Biodiversity parks are popular with visitors. Events like arrangements of dry and cut flowers; painting and photography competitions on nature-related themes, and street plays on contemporary social issues enable participants to showcase their artistic acumen

The 59th Annual Flower show held on 23rd February, 2017 drew a huge crowd from far and near. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Union Minister, Science & Technology & Earth Sciences, Government of India inaugurated the show and highlighted the significance of such activities in creating awareness among public about environment. An attractive array of colorful orchids, succulents, cacti and herbal plants were main attractions of the show. The flower show concluded with a prize distribution ceremony.

The 60th Annual Flower Show held on 28th February, 2018 was inaugurated by Prof. Yogesh K. Tyagi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of University of Delhi. The theme of this year’s flower show was “Floral Diversity of India” which was appreciated by thousands of visitors. The stall from Department of Floriculture, J & K was well attended. The flower show witnessed an overwhelming response from students and employees in various competitions. In all 74 rolling cups/trophies were awarded in many categories to prize winners from Colleges, Hostels, Departments, Institutes of the University and beyond.
